Go inside The Green Room for the England v Tonga Autumn International 2021

The gates of Twickenham Stadium were once again open for rugby fans on Saturday as England took on Tonga in their first game of the Autumn Nations Series 2021.

The chill of autumn was not all that was filling the air on Saturday, as a palpable excitement for the days action was evident amongst Green Room guests. Would Owen Farrell be fit to play? Would Marcus Smith start at fly half and how would this England team fair against a Tongan team that can be a very tricky opponent on their day?

Before the small issue of the rugby however, there was much merriment in The Green Room and a real jovial atmosphere as guests revelled in the opportunity to be back socialising with friends, family, and colleagues on an international match day at Twickenham. Our compere for the day, the inimitable Austin Healey, entertained guests poking fun at Sir Clive Woodward, Ben Kay and Mike Tindall, as well as regaling stories from past tours, away matches and of course that famous night in Sydney back in 2003.

Here at The Green Room, we’re known for attracting one or two celebrities and spotted on Saturday were none other than James Bond actor Colin Salmon, Line of Duty star Nigel Boyle and of course the Good Morning Britain tag team of Ben Shepherd and Adil Ray. You will be able to find out what they thought of their Green Room experience on our YouTube channel…safe to say we’re sure they had a great day!

With the pre-match entertainment completed by a delicious four-course meal and the obligatory glass of Champagne or two, guests were ready for the rugby! A crowd of over 81,000 witnessed England pour on the points and achieve a fantastic 69-3 victory, scoring 11 tries in the process and playing some brilliant attacking rugby in the 2nd half in particular. Young star Marcus Smith made a 20-minute cameo, scoring a try and kicking five conversions in the process and it would be a surprise if he’s not in the starting XV for Australia on Saturday 13 December.

It was undoubtedly a fantastic day to be back at Twickenham and it was even better to see The Green Room full of guests enjoying the experience! We’re already looking forward to welcoming you back to Twickenham and with packages available for the 6 Nations next year, we hope you’ll be back soon soon.
