The F1 Monaco Grand Prix is one of the most anticipated races on the Formula One calendar, with some of the biggest names from the world of sport descending on the streets of Monaco.

One driver in particular had a lot of buzz around him in the build-up to the weekend, Charles LeClerc was back at his home Grand Prix with hopes of becoming the first Monégasque to win the infamous race. His previous races here have been unsuccessful with a DNS in 2021. However, after a brilliant qualifying session on Saturday LeClerc was on pole for the race, an ideal position for the narrow streets of Monaco.

This street circuit is known for its difficult overtaking spots, but with rain scheduled for Sunday, the race was going to become unpredictable. Just as the cars began to line up clouds rolled over the principality causing a rush to the grid for the teams as they had to decide which tyres to go for. Following a delayed start the drivers completed just one lap before the race was red-flagged, a tense wait in the pits following an hour delay the race was back underway with a rolling start behind the safety car.

The pole-sitter LeClerc led the way with his teammate Carlos Sainz in second, as the track began to dry next was the challenge of when to pit. Ferrari’s double-stack proved a poor move for LeClerc and the fan favourite came out of the pits behind the Red Bull’s in fourth place and it seemed like hopes of a win were lost.

A crash by Mick Schumacher on lap 27 caused more chaos as the race became red-flagged once again. Red Bull opted for medium tyres while Ferrari went for the hard compound, as the race came down to a timer the crowd witnessed an intense battle between the four drivers but ultimately it was Red Bull’s Sergio Perez who took his first win around the streets of Monaco.
